Last Quarter's EventS
-----------------
EEPC held their annual transition meeting on Wednesday, July 9th with the outgoing EEPC Board (President Frosty O’B and Vice President Jake P) and the incoming EEPC Board (President Margaret L and Vice President David S) to discuss responsibilities, changes, and general information regarding EEPC and student leadership. See Summer 2008 newsletter for the entire board.
EEPC held their annual Bowling Night on Thursday, July 24th at Bahama Lanes in Pasadena. Students met for ball tossing, pin hitting, pizza eating, and bowling shoe wearing fun!
PEEP sponsored the EEP’s annual Catalina trip that took place from September 4th – September 7th. Students spent 4 days and 3 nights on Catalina Island bonding, relaxing, sunning, reading, football tossing, frozen banana eating and just plain fun having. J Thank you to all the camp counselors who according to the Program Director continue to be excellent, mature, role models for the younger campers. “Compared to the counselors I experienced at a number of camps as a young teen, EEP counselors are more like stoic, caring, wise grandparents!” Also a huge thanks to PEEP chaperones and high school teachers Pat and Alicia Stevens (Alex), EEP office SA, Sharon Ready as trip manager and counselor, teen-tested EEP GA Koryna Meraz as lead counselor and the Director for again taking the reins on directing a 75+ teenager strong field trip. Crazy after a summer of Provies!
EEP’s annual Provisional summer produced 16 new very smart, well-behaved freshmen!!! We are very excited for them to join our EEP family to continue and reinforce our history of and reputation for, educating top-notch teen scholars. (See Announcements)

EEPsters were appointed to many different positions in ASI (Associated Student Inc.) over the summer including the first ever EEP university student body President! We congratulate EEP Elder Jennifer C as CSLA’s ASI President. FYI the student body at the university exceeds 20,000 students Wow. Very cool! Jennifer noted, “I am confident as a leader and plan to do a very good job.” We agree and look forward to highly gifted leadership.

Koryna Meraz is our new EEP Grad Assistant taking over from Monica Marquez- Savala! Koryna is a graduate student in Counseling looking forward to a career in child therapy and counseling, Koryna is actively also continuing a 4 year commitment to work with autistic children in reading and study skills. As a Mom of a young adult she has first hand teenage experience and an extremely caring persona but most importantly she has taken a great interest in helping our teens. Koryna will assist Dr. Benedict, EEP Faculty Advisor, and the Director with academic guidance as well as the EEPC and all EEPster led clubs with events and activities. Her new title will be Student Life coordinator. Koryna said, “I love this place and the students are great!”
As a class of Elders graduates we find we have lockers available for Elder use only. A new EEP locker application form must be submitted each year and was recently sent to all Elders

News and Notices
Well we made it through another year, good for us. Just four main items:
Should any parent want to discuss their child’s performance or if there are any questions or concerns please call the office to schedule a meeting. You may also feel free to call or e-mail Jeff, Lisa, Koryna, or me. Have a great quarter! RSM

CHEERS & JEERS
-----------------
Cheers to the Advanced EEP Freshmen! We look forward to having you in our EEP Family!!!
Cheers to all those who participated in Catalina. You made this year’s Catalina Awesome!!! “All fun and limited problem areas made it the best in several years,” said EEPC president and Camp Counselor Margaret Lee.
Cheers to Koryna Meraz, our new EEP Grad Assistant, who has done an amazing job over the summer quarter under stressful Provie summer conditions.
Cheers to Margaret L and David S and the rest of the new EEPC board! We look forward to an exciting year with you!
Cheers to all the EEPC board and others who decorated the EEP lounge over the quarter break. It looks AMAZING!
Cheers to all those EEPsters who were appointed to ASI positions! (See student news & accomplishments).
Cheers to the Summer Mentors led by head mentors Sharon Ready and Margaret Lee who assisted the Provies and the Program.
Cheers Dr. Jeff Benedict for his 1-year Anniversary as university academic advisor appointed to the EEP.
Jeers to all the students who did not clean out their cubbies before the end of Summer quarter. We had to clean them out for you and trust us, it wasn’t pretty (see next Jeer).
Jeers to whoever left the Tupperware container, full of a ground beef mixture in the cubby area to rot. It’s completely disgusting and as always the Director has displayed it as a reminder to why we need the cubbys cleaned every quarter break. Gross.
Jeers to all the students who, due to their own procrastination, had problems registering for classes. This made much more work for us that could have easily been avoided.
Jeers to all students who, after constant reminders and e-mails, turned in their advisement slips late.

President’s Message
Hello EEP! This is Margaret Lee, broadcasting live from her extremely high and slightly uncomfortable chair overlooking the great EEP masses. But I’m pretty short, so I don’t think that the chair makes that much of a difference. Brian Mui and James Norwood are still taller than me, even taking into account all four of the chair’s legs.
Anyway, I’m a biology major, so even though there are words to describe how ridiculously excited I am to be President of EEP Club, I don’t know them and even if I did, I probably couldn’t use them correctly. As a direct result, I’m going to stick to the short words that I can understand.
My goal for the year is to get more EEPsters involved in the club, in any way possible. Do you like taking pictures? Cool! Let us have some and have your work immortalized in our yearbook. Do you like talking about how much you like pie? We can work with that. Talk about pie and try and get some at every EEPC event by becoming a member of our event planning committee! Do you like sitting outside, pondering existence? Who doesn’t?! Express your thoughts in written form in the new EEP Believes comp books in the lounge
Feel free to approach any member of EEPC with any concerns, questions, ideas, or cakes! I’m speaking for all of them, but I figure that I can do that. I’m the president.
- Margaret
