Welcome to the Spring 2005 Quarter after one of the wettest winter seasons in California history! We hope you are all drying out and feeling fresh and ready for a temperate spring in our usually gorgeous So Cal. winter is the only relatively quiet term in our busy year but we still have much to tell you so read on, EEP brothers and sisters!
2005 and the Winter quarter began shortly after the new year with the Yearbook Chairs April E. and Cat T. scheduling Yearbook Photo Week January 10th through 14th in the Lounge. Almost all of the regular EEPsters (sans the Elder Class) made it to the Lounge to have their likeness forever etched into digital history for this year's EEP Yearbook. Those who did not make it to Photo Week should contact April or Cat ASAP.
The following week on January 18th and 20th the EEΠX's Lounge Manager Chris H. hosted another Great EEP Auction. Each morning before the roosters stop crowing, Chris dutifully collects all property left out overnight in the Lounge (except for the safe zone, the Cubby Area) and saves it for the respective owners (minus the 25¢ return fee). All items not claimed are then stored for auction the following quarter. Chris ensures all monies collected from the auction are used to buy the EEPsters whatever they request at Group Meetings. If there are no requests, he buys frozen pizza! What a guy!
On Friday February 4th EEP office staff members Rich Maddox and Erika Garcia were honored at the halftime ceremonies of a CSLA Woman's Basketball contest as the recipients of the University's Outstanding Faculty and Staff Members of the Year! The EEPC council in concordance with the Student Development office and the Associate Students Inc. (CSLA student government) nominated the EEP workers and sponsored this annual CSLA tradition. This award is meant to distinguish members of the university community who have made extraordinary efforts in providing services to the students. We think all who are reading this Newsletter would agree that they are definitely two worthy service providers! Congratulations!
The EEΠX held the annual LaserTag Night at the Ultra Zone facility in Alhambra on Friday February 18th from 6:00 to 10:00pm. The lasers were tagged, the pizza and sodas consumed and we hear no one escaped unscathed from laser tagging and bounds of fun. Is it true that the old folks used to use their hands to tag? Crazy, man!
On March 10th the EEP was visited by Special Agents David Winsett and Kathy Nakano, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) who amazingly came and left without cuffing or removing a single EEPster. Friends of the Director, these fearless law-people came to discuss future careers in federal law enforcement, expressing much interest in meeting our country's best and brightest young minds. A most excellent luncheon of Subway, chips and soda was provided and the Agents brought a great video, handouts, kitchen magnets, a bulletproof vest and several other instruments of compliance for the EEP teens to ogle and inspect. It was a very interesting day for the EEPsters and we thank the FBI for their bravery in entering EEP Land without back up!
April 17th Sunday is the next SEAA WPCT Testing Event and, as always, we need your help. The Test Administrators headed by EEΠX President Herbert L. and Secretary Sam H. are already planning this Spring's Test and we hope to be able to re-hire each of the Proctor Teams and Lobby Greeters who made the December test such a success. Parent food and treat contributions are most welcome for both the Test Parent Reception (fruits, pastries, coffee) and the EEP Student Break Room (chips, cookies, lunch foods) PLUS we will host the last PEEP General Meeting of this school year in Lecture Hall II from 10:00am to 12:00pm. We will send out mass e-mails and notices very shortly so be ready!
The EEΠX and the EEP office have now finalized the availability of the 2005 EEP Class Ring from Jostens Rings( and recently sent a mass e-mail with details on March 14th. These unique EEP 10 carat white or yellow gold class rings will be offered in 2005 to any 4th or 5th year EEPster and are priced very reasonably at around $425.00. Jostens EEP representative, Eleanor Boudreau (eleanorboudreau@jostens.com) is planning on a campus visit soon for sizing and all EEPsters and PEEPsters interested should contact either Eleanor at the above e-mail address or EEΠX VP Sam Lee at samlee_bambie@yahoo.com for more details.
We are in the process of finalizing our plans for this year's Provisional applicant process and have selected May 19th Thursday as the date for our Provie Family Orientation. The 2005 Student Provie Administration Team of Jackie LZ, Winny S. (Provies) and Sam H., Herbert L. (Mentors), responsible for the administrative duties for the Mentors and the Provies, will be in attendance along with this year's Mentor Team leaders Laura P., Cat T., Kevork A., Joyce H., Lei Z., Chris H., Clare K., Leslie C., Amanda J., and Justin P. These EEPsters are responsible for organizing and guiding their Mentor Team in helping the Provies this summer. We will also need several members of the PEEP to attend the Orientation to help answer Provie parent questions. So be on the lookout for mass e-mail notices regarding this event.
The Fall 2004 PEEP Fundraiser was a huge success raising more than $10,000! We have already constructed the new Student Computer Lab with flat screens, new chairs and new computer desks. We have also purchased new games and game tables for the Game room, new couch cushions, new stools for the Journalism Office/ Study Room, new office equipment, a student color printer, a Lounge cleaning and funding to support the EEPC Board plus much more! Thank you PEEP for the outstanding contributions to our Lounge and student life! Remember, all Donations to the EEF are tax-deductible.

The EEΠX is requesting parent volunteers to sit on their Justice and Discipline (JD) Board. The JD Board is headed by the EEΠX Vice President (Sam L.) and includes other EEP student representatives and the Elders. The Board was established to help the EEPsters police their own campus community and to ensure proper deportment and adherence to the common rules of decency and the EEP Social and Behavioral Agreements. Sam needs PEEP representation so if you are interested please write to samlee_bambie@yahoo
We are very happy to announce the addition to the EEP staff of student assistant Cynthia M., a junior majoring in criminal justice and computer information systems. Cynthia already feels at home in the Lounge with the EEPsters and can be found eating lunch or napping after her grueling EEP shifts! We also welcome to the staff current EEPC Social Chair Amanda J., a junior majoring in physics and heading to law school upon her graduation in 2007. Amanda is a fantastic new member of our staff and has that EEPster ability to multi-task 1,200 projects at once! Thanks to our newest staff members for helping us with the Program!
EEΠX 2005-2006 Officer nominations will be accepted during Group Meetings Week #3 of Spring with elections scheduled for Week #8 Group Meetings. Per the EEΠX Constitution, the Offices of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer will be filled after formal elections are finalized by Election Commissioner Neshan S. (Elder). A clarification on the www.isoldit.com PEEP fundraising offer - as noted in an earlier newsletter, PEEPster Helene Chemel (Jennifer) has offered to sell almost anything through her isoldit.com business but we wrote the wrong contact info for her, oops! Please note the REAL e-mail address is helene.chemel@i-soldit.com. This is the perfect opportunity to clean out that garage and/or attic of all the wonderful treasures that you really don't need and will never sell yourself! Donate to the EEP through Helen's iSold it .com and we all win.
One of the EEP Elders is planning a student film documentary on the EEP and this year's Provie process. Under the general direction of CSLA Broadcasting professor Alan Bloom and the Office of Public Affairs, EEP Elder Sheldon S., Joy H. (ALUM), Bobby B. (EEΠX Journalism Chair) and fellow Elder Drew G. are in the last phases of completing the necessary paperwork and will be mailing a brief description and permission slip home soon. Should you have any questions regarding this project feel free to write directly to Sheldon at sschwartz@schtm.com. Can we imagine Academy recognition soon?!
Students should check their Individual Meeting Schedules carefully and in cases where students must make a change or if PEEPsters would like to schedule a parent meeting with Lisa (EEP Student Counselor) please e-mail her directly: lisie@jps.net or send a note to Erica eepstaff@cslanet.calstatela.edu

The Tutoring Program directed by the EEΠX's Academic Chair has established new policies to ensure all qualified EEP Tutors are prepared to best assist all the EEP students who need tutoring. The details were discussed at Group Meetings and involve a more thorough screening process to ensure that the student needs are meet and the Tutors' time is best used to help the EEPsters achieve academic success. If you are in need of tutoring OR if you are interested in serving as an EEP Tutor, please contact Rex C. at kirexhana@hotmail.com.

Greetings PEEPsters and EEPsters and thanks for another wonderful quarter of excitement and study. Before I continue this section I have some great news that will undoubtedly affect the EEP in some small way. After careful consideration and planning for the past three or four years, I have decided to continue my education by returning to graduate school effective this summer. Happily, I was accepted to a number of doctoral programs and have chosen to attend the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California (USC) beginning in August 2005. I will specialize in educational psychology with an emphasis on the development of educational models for highly gifted youth. USC's Rossier School is ranked #20 in the nation with the faculty ranking 3rd so it is a marvelous opportunity for me to become a more effective leader, teacher and advisor.
I welcome your support as I progress through the program, expecting to finish in late spring of 2008. As part of my planning for this eventuality, I have more fully developed and supported our EEΠX leaders in addition to adding student assistants to our office staff. I also now have a FANTASTIC self-supporting and, may I say, most excellent parent support group in the PEEP so my absences will be hardly noticed! I plan on leaving early from campus one day each week and will come in late the next. Otherwise, I hope my dual life as EEP Director and doctoral student will not create any unusual tribulations for my EEP family. I will gladly discuss this topic at our bi-annual PEEP General Meeting on April 17th and am always willing to discover new ways to make this change as easy and beneficial as possible. I thank you all for your patience, support and care and I welcome your advice

* The new computer lab provided by the PEEP Fundraiser 2005 is up and running for the continued respectful and scholastic use by our students. As a reminder, the lab is provided by the parents for SCHOOL WORK and/or SCHOLARLY efforts ONLY.
* Because of carelessness and misuse, all Lounge electrical outlets are OFF LIMITS to all EEPsters (except those in the Gameroom and Kitchen). There is no need for our teens to plug-in or unplug any equipment. Should they need to use a wall outlet or power strip they MUST contact a member of the office staff.
* Effective immediately there will be a ban on all video/computer games using laptop wireless connections in the Lounge and in the Lab. Students wishing to use their laptops for video games should leave the Lounge/Fine Arts areas.
* Cheers to the PEEP for the continual efforts to help, fund and support their EEP. Such help was especially noticeable after another successful fundraiser for the 2004-2005 school year. We couldn't make the EEP the success it has become without parents like Donna Hay, Chris Greene and The Kovshilovskys to name only four!
* Cheers to the EEΠX for the outstanding effort these young scholars make to the development and operation of the Program. Each of these student leaders spend a minimum of 100 hours per quarter working to make the EEP better for all of us. I look forward to the 2005 EEΠX Elections and a new Board of leaders for 2006!
* Cheers to EEP Elders like Rex C., Jesse H., Jonathan R., Neshan S. and Jackson V. who are truly becoming excellent adult leaders and role models. These young men have taken an active role in helping maintain an orderly EEP environment and in guiding/advising their younger EEP brothers and sisters and I thank them each.
* Jeers to the EEPsters who continually leave dirty dishes in the sink, who misuse the equipment and who leave fast food wrappers on our furniture. Do any of these socially maladjusted behaviors sound familiar? If so, let us know and we will watch out for your EEPster's dirty habits!
* Jeers to the EEPsters who are intent on wasting their EEP opportunity by skipping classes, playing video games for hours on end, not completing homework and otherwise neglecting their scholastic responsibilities. The only ones hurt by this behavior are themselves. If we can help in any way to get your student on the straight and narrow, call us!
* Jeers to the EEPsters who don't get involved in Program and Campus life as they are missing a lot of great opportunities and, quite frankly, a lot of FUN! If your student isn't talking about activities, clubs, faculty, events, new responsibilities and other students then maybe they need a gentle reminder about involvement. If we can help we will!
Should any parent want to discuss their child's performance or if there are any questions or concerns please call the office to schedule a meeting. You may also feel free to call or e-mail me. Have a great quarter!

President's Message
Spring Greetings to the entire EEP family! This is Herbert, your EEP Club president. We've had a very busy quarter, and the quarter ahead looks like it'll be just as packed.
In the past quarter, we've had 2 major social events, our Lasertag outing and the Spring Formal. Both were big successes and Kudostm to the social chairs, Pam and Amanda for pulling them off!
The EEP Club homepage has been changed, thanks to our brilliant tech chairs Josh and Myle. Now, instead of having to remember our old, longer website address, we have the user-friendlier http://www.eepclub.org
We are currently looking for a PEEPster to serve as the Parent Advisor to the JD board. If you would like to help, please contact Samantha, our EEP Club vice-president.
As always, EEP Club is glad to offer free tutoring to students who are having trouble in classes. If you need help, please contact Rex, the Academic Chair and he will organize meetings with one of our qualified tutors.
EEP Club elections are coming up in less than a quarter. If you'd like to run, submit your name at Week 3 group meetings.
Finally, a thanks to all EEP parents! We at EEP club always cherish your support and guidance.
Newsletter contributions welcome for Summer 2005 -All rebuttals will be processed
